General information

NCVO champions the voluntary sector and volunteering because they’re essential for a better society. Empowered by more than 11,000 members drawn from across the community and voluntary sector in England, NCVO works by connecting, representing and supporting voluntary organisations.

NCVO connects organisations with the people, partners and resources they need to make the biggest difference.

NCVO represents the voluntary sector and volunteering to government – using the best research, we demonstrate their true value and help influence policy-makers.

NCVO supports voluntary organisations by generating and identifying the best knowledge and expertise.

We help our members thrive by providing expert support and advice, saving them time and money, and keeping them up to date with the news and developments that affect them.

NCVO merged with Volunteering England in 2013. NCVO offers a range of volunteering support such as organising the National Volunteering Forum, providing policy updates to members, and partnering with Volunteer Centres to provide assistance to individual volunteers and volunteer involving organisations. NCVO also runs a number of quality accreditation services, including Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation, Investing in Volunteers, and Investing in Volunteers for Employers.

The Institute for Volunteering Research

The Institute for Volunteering Research (IVR) is a specialist research and consultancy agency on volunteering. IVR’s programme of work around volunteering in recent years has included high level consultancy for the UK government and the United Nations, as well as organisational consultancy for a wide range of voluntary, public and private sector organisations (including, for example, City Year, the National Trust, the Natural History Museum, the Baring Foundation, Barclays Bank Plc and the Children’s Workforce and Development Council). Further information is available at IVR is part of NCVO, the representative body for civil society organisations in England.
