General information

The Association for Sport & Volunteering (ASV) is a civil society organization based in Skopje, North Macedonia, founded on the belief that sports and volunteering, when combined, have the power to build stronger, more inclusive communities.

Background

From its inception, ASV has been dedicated to promoting volunteering in sports as a tool for social change, youth engagement, inclusion, and civic responsibility. We believe that everyone, regardless of age, ability, or background, should have access to opportunities to participate, grow, and contribute.

Aims

  • To position sport as a field of social change and volunteering as the practical tool for participation, inclusion, and civic responsibility.

  • To foster active citizenship and social cohesion by organising and supporting inclusive volunteering in sport.

  • To promote inclusion with particular attention to marginalised and underrepresented groups, including persons with disabilities.

  • To build the capacities of individuals and organisations, such as grassroots clubs, schools, municipalities, and federations, through training in volunteer skills development and volunteer management.

  • To strengthen the sport ecosystem by developing sustainable volunteer pathways and club support.

  • To inform and contribute to sport and volunteering policy development at local and national levels, advocating for resources and recognition of sport volunteering.

  • To nurture a culture where sport and volunteering are interlinked and recognised as key drivers of community development.

Main Activities

  • Recruit, train and coordinate volunteers for sports events and community initiatives, with a strong focus on sports club activities and local competitions.

  • Deliver training for young people and adults in organisation, leadership, volunteer skills, and volunteer management (including safeguarding, inclusion, and accessibility).

  • Support clubs to design inclusive volunteer roles and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for day-to-day operations.

  • Facilitate networking and partnerships between sports organisations, grassroots clubs, volunteers, communities, schools, and public authorities.

  • Implement inclusion programmes that integrate underrepresented groups, including persons with disabilities, into regular clubs through mentorship and adapted roles.

  • Develop community projects that use sport as a vehicle for social change across health, education, and social cohesion outcomes.

  • Lead community initiatives that leverage sport to drive social change, focusing on health, education, and social cohesion.

  • Collaborate with NGOs, public institutions, and international partners on policy development, awareness-raising, and advocacy in sport and volunteering

  • Build and maintain a volunteer pool as well as assist in creation of  pathways from entry-level roles to leadership at all levels in sport clubs and sport events.

  • Mobilise resources and partnerships to sustain grassroots sport and volunteering initiatives.
